Trucking news 2025

Image
As the holiday season kicks off, freight trucking experts say cargo theft will once again surge as more products hit the road. The July Q2 report from CargoNet, a national information-sharing system that tracks cargo theft, shows a 13% increase in cargo theft compared to the same time in 2024. Old-fashioned cargo theft is still happening, and one San Antonio-based freight business has some experience with it.  "Before 2020 it was more just straight thefts," said Adam Blanchard, co-founder of Double Diamond Transport and Tanager Logistics. "They would come in, cut the seals and take cargo out of it." These fraudsters are now digging deep into all facets of the trucking industry. "They stole my identity as a freight broker in order to get cargo from other companies and tender it to legitimate motor carriers and I started having legitimate trucking companies reaching out to me asking for payment for freight that wasn’t mine," Blanchard said. Blanchard traced ...

Dow Falls 900

Image
📉 Scenario: Dow Falls 900 Points in One Day Let’s assume: You bought a 1-day, in-the-money put option on a Dow ETF like DIA (which tracks the Dow). The Dow fell ~900 points, or about 2.5% to 3%. You held the put to expiration (same day). 🔍 What Is an In-The-Money Put? An ITM put option means the strike price is above the current price of the stock/index, so: You already have intrinsic value at the time of purchase. When the stock/index falls further, the value of the put rises fast. 💰 Example: Buying an ITM Put on DIA DIA ETF = ~$365 the night before You buy a $370 Put (ITM by $5) You pay around $6.00–$6.50 premium per contract (=$600–$650) The next day, DIA falls to ~$356 (a ~900 point drop in the Dow) 📈 How Much You Could Make Your $370 put is now $14 in-the-money ($370–$356 = $14) The contract now trades near $14–$15 Your gain = (New value - cost) x 100 contracts ✅ Profit: → Bought at $6.50 → Sold at $14.50 → Gain: $8 per share × 100 = $800 profit per contract → Return on ...

A tiny apartment balcony proved to be an ineffective hiding spot for a group of residential burglary suspects. Detectives from the Burbank Police and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department recently executed a search warrant at a 7th-floor apartment unit near downtown Los Angeles in connection with a June 2025 burglary. They didn’t immediately find anyone inside, but the suspect hadn’t gone far. “Detectives quickly realized that the four suspects had fled out of the rear 7th-story balcony and tightroped across a narrow ledge to a neighboring apartment balcony,” police posted on social media. Officers searched the apartment and found a sizeable haul of allegedly stolen goods, including jewelry, handbags, watches, shoes, cash, and foreign currency. They also found a substance known as “pink cocaine” inside a blender and hundreds of empty baggies, police said. “Pink cocaine” is a synthetic psychedelic drug that is typically sold in a pink powder form. Police said the crew has been ...

Dow fell hard, 900 points

New York  —  US stocks closed sharply lower Friday after President Donald Trump threatened to hike tariffs on imports from China, reigniting fears of a trade war that rocked global markets earlier this year. The Dow fell 879 points, or 1.9%. The broader S&P 500 dropped 2.71% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite slid 3.56%. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq each posted their worst day since April as a slide in tech stocks led the market lower. The Dow posted its worst day since May. The S&P 500’s drop of 2.71% saw the index shed roughly $1.56 trillion in market value in one day, according to FactSet data. Trump said in a social media post he is considering a “massive increase” in tariffs on imports from China, adding “There is no way that China should be allowed to hold the World ‘captive’” over rare earth exports.

Israel and Hamas have agreed to an exchange of the remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners, President Trump announced on Wednesday. But as people across the Middle East woke up to news of the agreement on Thursday, many of the details were still unclear. Mr. Trump said on social media that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a 20-point peace plan that he presented at the end of September. The announcement was made following indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas mediated by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the United States.

How STEEL is Made

Image
The European Union’s executive arm on Tuesday proposed a sharp increase in steel tariffs as it raced to protect the bloc’s steel industry from Chinese competition, a move that is likely to impose painful costs on Britain and other close trading partners. The European Commission’s  proposal  would slash the amount of steel that can be imported without incurring tariffs to 18.3 million tons per year, a nearly 50 percent reduction from the 2024 quota. At the same time, it would double the tariff on steel imported above that quota, pushing it to 50 percent. The goal is to hit back against  global overcapacity,  as cheap steel imported from China and elsewhere gains market share in Europe and costs steelworker jobs across the 27-nation bloc

Pets this Halloween

Image
Local advice How to keep pets safe this Halloween, according to Best Friends Animal Society As Halloween approaches, households across the country are preparing costumes, candy, and decorations. While the holiday is a highlight for many children and adults, it can also present serious risks for household pets. From the constant ringing of doorbells to accessible candy, October 31 can become stressful, and even dangerous, for dogs and cats. To help pet owners keep their furry friends safe, Best Friends Animal Society, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in U.S. shelters, is sharing practical tips for a stress-free Halloween. Door-to-door trick-or-treat traffic can spook pets and send them bolting. The organization suggests keeping dogs and cats in a quiet, secure room during peak trick-or-treat hours. For pets that do slip outside, a smart GPS collar can help ensure a safe return. Candy and certain foods pose another risk. Chocola...

Beer sales are down.

Image
For more than two decades, pints of lagers and ales flowed from the taps at 21st Amendment Brewery. An early mover in craft brewing, the bar and restaurant flourished in San Francisco’s South Park neighborhood, near the financial district and the Giants’ Oracle Park, serving its own specialties like Hell or High Watermelon beer. But after 25 years, 21st Amendment, named after the constitutional amendment that made alcohol legal after Prohibition, will say “last call” for the final time later this month as it shuts its doors. What’s happened to 21st Amendment isn’t unique, as craft breweries across the country shutter or file for bankruptcy at a rapid rate. Sales of craft beer fell 4 percent last year, according to the Brewers Association, the lobbying arm for small and independent brewers. There have been more brewery closings than openings over the past 18 months, the first time that has happened in 20 years.

bachelor

Image
A growing number of bachelors and bachelorettes, typically those who are a little older and have enough money to travel, are choosing to bid farewell to single life by bringing their loved ones together for destination gatherings centered on more wholesome experiences — glamping instead of gambling, surfing instead of doing shots. Jolie Golub, a co-founder of BachBoss, a company that has helped plan more than 350 bachelor and bachelorette parties, says about 40 percent of its events, up from about a third of them in 2023, now focus on activities other than partying, with an increasing number of inquiries into places “with a focus on nature and wellness.”

How to Work Around the PDT Rule

🧠 Pro Tip: Combine Strategies Use a cash account for smaller trades. Use multiple brokers to reset the trade count. Focus on quality swing setups to grow capital toward $25K.
