Big Bear earthquakes

 

A series of earthquakes, including two measuring 3.5, shook the Big Bear area overnight.  

The first temblor – a 3.5-magnitude – struck around 11:15 p.m. Saturday 7 kilometers (roughly 4.3 miles) north of Big Bear City at a depth of 6.6 kilometers (4.1 miles), according to the U.S. Geological Service. 

Nearly four hours later, a 3.4-magnitude quake struck the same area at 2:51 a.m. Sunday. About 40 minutes after that, another 3.5-magnitude rattled the same spot yet again, USGS data shows.

All was quiet until around 5:54 a.m. when a 2.5-magnitude quake struck. At 6:20, a fifth event – a 2.6-magnitude – was recorded, per USGS.
